Project data

Dimensions and configurations.

Construction and projection across the Tholus Air range, with indicative heights for the 5 and 6 m models.

Estimated capacity by diameter and layout

Preliminary estimates to be checked against the actual installation. For 5 and 6 m, the estimates assume primary-school children sitting on the floor and adults on the floor or on non-reclining chairs. Standing events are shown separately.

Diameter Indicative height Planetarium: children seated on floor Adults seated on the floor Adults on chairs Standing event
5 m approx. 2.9 m 25–30 15–20 12–15 30
6 m approx. 3.5 m 35–40 22–30 18–20 30–35
10 m defined in the project — — 55–65 100–110

Capacity must be checked against the actual installation: technical space, seating, aisles, exits, accessibility, ventilation and approvals determine the final number. Include accompanying adults and operators; mixed groups require a revised layout. These estimates are not approved occupancy limits. A dash means capacity must be defined in the project.

Dome construction

All diameters use the same air-tight polyester/PVC composite fabric of approximately 450 g/m²: grey on the projection side, black outside and fully light-blocking even in sunlight. The upper dome has one fabric layer; the lower base ring has two layers of the same material. One 750 W, 230 V, 50 Hz blower on the 5 and 6 m models and two on the 10 m maintain positive pressure during operation. Attachment points and ports for external air-conditioning ducts are provided.

Use and safety

Checks before opening.

The installation is checked against the venue and selected configuration.

  • We check ground, height, access, power, ventilation and circulation routes.
  • Access and exit procedures are defined for the layout and local requirements.
  • Technical space and aisles must accommodate projection, operator and audience.
  • The dome can be used outdoors. In direct sun, an air conditioner is strongly recommended; the dome already has connection ports. Shading is also recommended. Do not use outdoors in adverse weather, and follow the wind limits stated in the user manual.

Complete system

Projection, control and agreed programmes.

Audiovisual equipment depends on the selected variant.

  • TholusOS handles playback and geometric correction for the configuration.
  • The server is sized for the selected content, codecs and projection.
  • Starter content and Moon journey, Stellarium, Sagitta and immersive SuperTuxKart included; WorldWide Telescope included with availability expected by November 2026
  • Two-year commercial warranty under the contract.

Projectors by configuration

4K projectors: laser DLP, 0.65-inch DMD and FOFO contrast 3500:1.

Mirror and image

The projector sends its image to a first-surface spherical convex mirror, which distributes it across the dome. TholusOS corrects the projection geometry.

Blending

In the Multi system, TholusOS automatically calibrates geometry and blending for the three projectors with a 360° camera such as Insta360 X5, aligning their images on the dome.

Setup and recalibration

Setup and recalibration take approximately 30 minutes for single-projector configurations and about one hour for multi-projection, with the space and connections already prepared.

Included in every complete system

The final component list specifies equipment and programmes for the variant.

  • Dome, blowers according to diameter and selected projection

Before you choose

Buying, delivery and choosing your system.

Answers to help you choose the size and supply and prepare your quotation request.

Can I buy the inflatable dome only?

Yes: 5 m CHF 2’990, 6 m CHF 3’490 and 10 m CHF 6’490, excluding VAT. The TholusOS edition and licence terms are stated in the quotation.

When is it delivered?

Indicative delivery is 60–90 days, depending on availability. The date is confirmed in the quotation.

When should I choose a complete system?

If you are starting school visits, museum activities or a touring exhibition without an existing compatible fulldome setup, the complete system brings dome, projection, audio and TholusOS together in one design. TholusOS is a multimedia system and media server exceptionally rare in its category worldwide: it runs the projection and lets you create tailored experiences as well as play films. We agree a starter programme and train the operator remotely, giving you one technical contact for the first sessions and future content.

I already own a projector. What should I buy?

The dome-only option is the better starting point. Contact us with the projector make and model: we can check how it pairs with the dome and supply the convex projection mirror separately.

If I buy the dome only, can I add projection later?

Yes. You can start with the dome and add a projector, mirror, server and audio later. Based on your dome diameter and intended use, we can propose a configuration and quote for the additional components.

How do I request a Tholus Air proposal?

Choose a configuration in the cards above and select “Request a quotation”: the form already carries your chosen variant. Enter your name and email; in the optional details, tell us the venue, available dimensions, expected audience and whether you already own a projector. We will contact you to define the equipment and prepare a proposal with price and delivery time.

How much space is needed, and how many people can it hold?

Preliminary estimates for the 5 m: 25–30 primary-school children on the floor, or 15–20 adults on the floor, or 12–15 adults on non-reclining chairs. For the 6 m: 35–40, 22–30 and 18–20 respectively. For the 10 m: 55–65 on chairs or 100–110 standing, subject to project review. Capacity must be checked against the actual installation, including accompanying adults and operators. Technical space, aisles, exits, accessibility, ventilation and approvals may reduce it. Allow room for the entrance and circulation; indicative heights are 2.9 m and 3.5 m for the 5 and 6 m models.

How is the dome built?

The 5, 6 and 10 m models use the same approximately 450 g/m² polyester/PVC composite fabric, fully light-blocking even in sunlight. The upper dome has one layer and the lower base ring has two. The 5 and 6 m models use one 750 W, 230 V, 50 Hz blower; the 10 m uses two.

What does the complete-system price include?

The complete system includes dome, selected projection, audio, server, TholusOS Pro with the first year of updates, starter content, Stellarium, Sagitta, immersive SuperTuxKart, training and a two-year warranty. WorldWide Telescope will be included, with availability expected by November 2026. Transport, on-site installation, seating and bespoke productions are separate.

Which programmes are available?

Starter content, the fulldome Moon journey with Mira and Nilo, Stellarium and two games are included: Sagitta and immersive SuperTuxKart. WorldWide Telescope will be included, with availability expected by November 2026. More games will arrive in 2027. Films from other catalogues and bespoke productions are agreed in the proposal.

Can it be used outdoors?

The dome can be used outdoors. In direct sun, an air conditioner is strongly recommended; the dome already has connection ports. Shading is also recommended. Do not use outdoors in adverse weather, and follow the wind limits stated in the user manual.

Do prices include VAT?

No. Published prices exclude VAT; transport and services are specified for the destination in the proposal.
